For me, happiness is being organized. Okay, sometimes I'm not organized, but there is a certain peacefulness I have when I know thing are clean and organized. Especially when it comes to laundry and my clothes! After attending the 2011 SL Valley Parade of Homes, both Shane and I were motivated to update our closet. Weight: 161 lbs L
Height: 5 ft. 4.5 inches (I lost half an inch?)
Body Fat: 38.3% (60 lbs.)
Waist Circumference: 38 inches
Total Cholesterol (LDL): 204
Fasting Glucose: 77 mg/dL (My appt. was at 9:30am and they want you to fast for 4 hours before your appt., so I hadn’t had anything to eat since the night before.)
Based on the info. that was gathered, the Healthy Utah rep. gave me some goals to work on. You see, you can get an additional $50 at the appointment if you are nice and healthy. Unfortunately, I didn’t meet the levels that they wanted for that. Do they really want to make you feel bad about not being healthy? No. They even offer “rebates” or more money for reaching the goals you have set. So if I bring down my weight and BMI 6 months after doing the assessment, I get $50. If I bring down my cholesterol, I get another $50. (They do other rebates too, such as Quitting Smoking.) At the end of all this, I can end up making $150 total, just from improving my health! Here are the goals I am working towards, hopefully meeting them by January 2012:
Body Fat: 30%; this means losing 16.5 lbs of fat
For my height and age, I need it is desirable to be between 21-33% body fat or 27-49.5 lbs of fat.
Cholesterol (LDL) needs to be at 200 or below, so that shouldn’t be too hard to change once I start losing weight, exercising and eat healthier.
What I learned at the assessment that I liked the most was my resting metabolic rate (BMR). This is how many calories your body burns itself, when it is not being stressed or worked. My number is 1546. You may find that websites and apps. will figure your calories needed based on your weight, height and, sometimes, age. They always vary. This number is specific to you and comes from the data collected during the assessment.

OMG! Thank you so much to Stephanie, my co-worker, for telling me about these......they are AMAZING! I'm not a big fan of Peanut Butter, so I have only tried the Fudge option. Sometimes I want a little more, but for only 90 calories and 20% of your daily fiber, these things are perfect for that chocolate craving that I get every day. Another co-worker hasn't tried these, but she likes to call FiberOne Granola bars "fart bars." I haven't noticed any effects of that nature, but it makes me feel really good to be getting in a chunk of my fiber while eating something so DeLiCiOuS!!! Now stop reading this and go buy some!

Kick off your Sunday shoes and put on your running shoes! Getting back into the swing of working out means that I have started spending more quality time with my elliptical. I'm just going to say it....I'm not a huge fan of running. During the summer, its too hot and during the fall/winter its too cold on my lungs which equals a near asthma attack. I also find it kind of boring. Even when I run with what I think is an awesome playlist, it still gives me too much time to think about "Why am I doing something I don't like?" Enter the elliptical in my basement....its perfect! I can exercise when I want, where what I want (no more worrying about how I look or what is jiggling when I run and what people can see), AND I can catch up on some of my favorite movies. Most recently I started thinking about the October release of the remake of Footloose, one of my Top 10 Fave movies.
When you get a mix of Kenny Loggins, Bonnie Tyler, Quiet Riot, Shalamar and John Mellencamp, how could you not want to keep moving and get in motion with the beat. While I was running last night, I decided that Footloose is THE best movie soundtrack to run to.
And while I may enjoy the original film, I have little hesitation to think that the remake will not disappoint. One of the things that I like about remakes, rather done right or not, they make the kiddos aware that the classic originals exist and possibly expand their minds outside of the world the think revolves around them. Don't miss the new Footloose with Julianne Hough (Dancing with the Stars) and Kenny Wormald (Center Stage 2) in theaters October 14!

Is there anything better than a cute hair-do? Well, maybe a easy-to-do frock. When I was in Key West this past February, it would have been helpful to know what I know now. I only made one attempt to straighten my hair while there, other wise it was a non-blown, non-flat ironed, au naturale wave look that I created by creating a high, messy ponytail after washing my hair, then sitting in the sun with a sea breeze to dry it. It worked really well. Tried it when we got back to Utah and it was a major fail. Months later I found this tutorial on ToneItUp.com's blog. This is my new summer staple. Plus it is quick and easy enough for me to do before work and to touch up between washes. I've been super compliments at work and out-and-about regarding my hair and decided to share my not-so-secret info.
