Calories: 1264
Exercise: 30 minutes on the elliptical- 545 calories burned!
I took Buddy to the vet today to have his paw looked at. He sliced one of the pads running through the backyard. They bandaged his paw and prescribed him an antibiotic. Now I have to give him a pill twice a day and wrap his foot in a Ziploc bag before he goes outside. Spoiled dog! I skipped out on Jazzercise because I was taking care of him, but decided to run instead. It is nice having an elliptical at the house for when I feel like working out. Rachael talked me into Subway for lunch today. I got a BLT and coke, so running was definitely needed. When I updated my weight to 157, my suggested calorie intake to lose 2 lbs per week was changed to 1206.

Tuesday, January 19

Calories: 1162
No exercise today. Shane warned me before I got home that he had a bad day at work and was not in a good mood. I decided to stop and get stuff to make pumpkin chocolate chip cookies to cheer him up. Winco only sold big cans of pumpkin mix so I decided to make chocolate fudge cookies with white chocolate chips. Same way as the normal pumpkin cookies, just changed the mixes. Then when I was done with that, I found blood on the tile in our dining room. Buddy had just come in from outside and had a cut on his foot. Shane doesn't like blood or cuts, so he held him while I cleaned his paw and wrapped it. On a good note, I was under my recommended calorie intake to lose 2 lbs. per week. I weighed myself this morning and ended at 157 lbs. for the week. I gained one pound, but that's better than gaining more than I lost.

Sunday, January 17

Calories: 1780
Exercise: Walked around the Auto Expo for 2 hours- 487 calories
Working AE Floorset, which I count as shopping, for 6 hours: 976 caloriesI, again, didn’t work out by doing Jazzercise or running, but the big calorie burner of the day was working at AE. We did the Spring 2010 Floorset for 6 hours from 6pm to midnight! Doing the floorset is definitely different from my normal working day routine, but I enjoy being able to move around, climb on things, look at clothes and lift. The bonus, since I have Monday off, I was able to look before I shop. That’s what I think I will do on my day off…shop!

Saturday, January 16

Calories: 2236- I went over 1038 calories!!!
No exercise again! I am slacking! We did take the animals to the vet this morning, then ran around doing some of this and that. Took Griffin to see both of our parents, but I didn’t eat lunch. Dinner was well worth it though. SMASHBURGER! I didn’t realize how many calories were in the burger until I entered it into my food log...1010 calories! It may not reflect my actual burger (mine was minus the cheese and some of the sauces and veggies), but I’m sure it couldn’t be far off. I think that it may have been good for me to not exercise for the past two days. That allows my body to relax and recover while my mind isn’t burnt out on the thought of when to fit in exercise. When I was doing P90X they talked about “muscle confusion.” By not working out everyday, I am following the idea of “muscle surprise” because when I do work out its like SURPRISE!!!!

Friday, January 15

Calories: 1011
I didn't exercise today. I was super lazy and wasn't expecting that Shane would be home until 3pm. However, he was home at 12:30! Oops! So much for acting like I was busy all day. I didn't work out, but had a great healthy meal at Shane's work party. It was held at the Gathering Place and it was the first time we had been there since our wedding. I am proud of myself for staying under my calorie goal WITHOUT working out.

Calorie Change

Since I updated my lower weight on livestrong.com, I noticed that my suggested caloric intake to continue averaging losing 2 lbs. per week has changed. I have gone from 1231 to 1198. It recommends that I consume 33 calories less just because I lost 4 lbs.? OH WELL! Guess that just means that I need to work out harder to get what I want. Its been fine so far this week, I haven't gone over my calories with the exercise I have been doing. I didn't even notice that my calories changed until yesterday. I have noticed that it is easier to watch what I am eating when I am tracking the calories. Looking at the nutrition information before eating something at work has also helped me make better decisions. By the way, I had an AWESOMELY YUMMY treat today. My friend Rachael made fruit pizza. All it consisted of was a sugar cookie topped with light cool whip mixed with lemon yogurt and a variety of fruits (blueberries, strawberries, peaches, kiwi, etc.) Anyway, got to go to bed. A key to losing weight is making sure you have plenty of sleep. Happy health!

Monday, January 11

Calorie Intake: 1181
Exercise: Jazzercise for 1 hour- burned 435
Notes:
Jazzercise class was FULL today. But having some younger girls in the class really pushed me to work it! We did a new routine to 3 by Britney Spears. I may need to download this one for my running playlists. I have also upped my hand weights from 5 lbs. to 8 lbs. What a difference! But the burn feels SO GOOD!

Here we go!

I have signed up for a free calorie tracker on livestrong.com. It’s a great website that allows you to log all the food you eat day-by-day, track your fitness and keep record of the calories you have taken in and burned. It also based your daily caloric intake for each day by looking at your weight, height and age. According to the site, I am overweight based on my BMI (body mass index.) On the site, I was able to enter a weight goal and calorie goal. In order to lose two pounds per week based on my normal activity (there was an option for sitting at a desk typing and walking around from time to time), I need to have 1231 calories daily. The goal when counting calories is to burn more than you take in. I can take in more calories when I workout. Make sense? Hope so.

My Starting Point

Hi! You are probably wondering what possessed me to create a blog called Ashley’s Motivation Station. Well…it all started when I joined my office’s Biggest Loser contest. Our first weigh in was on January 5th. I looked at the other people that were also paying $10 per month to compete in this contest. We are each paying $10 per month for the months of January, February, March, April and May. That’s 5 months! There are 10 people that had signed up to start the program. So if we all follow through, that will be $500 that the Biggest Loser gets. I kept telling myself, I can do this, it would be awesome to win that money. However I am someone that is powered by motivation. I started thinking about what I would do with the money. Simple…SHOP! Then I started thinking about where I would shop…VEGAS! So that was my first motivation…lose weight to win money to take to Vegas in the summer. I cut out a picture of the Las Vegas sign and taped it to my screen so that I would see it all day. One week in…I had lost pounds. But I started thinking again, what other kinds of motivation could there be. I picked up copies of Weight Watchers magazine and Self at the grocery store and started reading up on their tips. Two of the most common tips were log your food and talk to others. I set up an account on livestrong.com to track my food, calories and fitness, but no one but me can see it. Then I started thinking about blogs. What a perfect way! I could hide the link on my main blog and then anyone that was brave enough to check it could. Then I wouldn’t know who was looking at it, when they looked at it and why. It could be really anonymous. So starting with Sunday, January 10, I will be posting my calorie intake, what I did for exercise and other various things. I may also post updates of my weight. Thanks for reading and being supportive in the goals that I have set!
